ESI Registration In India – An Overview
This program is designed for Indian workers and offers medical, financial, and other benefits from their employers. Any company with more than 10 employees (or 20 in some states) that pays employees up to Rs. 15,000 a month must sign up for the ESIC.
Under this program, employers pay 3.25% of their employees’ total monthly salary, while employees contribute 0.75% of their monthly salary. Employees who earn less than Rs. 100 a day don’t have to contribute.

Benefits
- Sickness Benefits: Employees get 70% of their salary if they’re sick for up to 91 days each year.
- Medical Benefits: Employees and their families receive health care support.
- Maternity Benefits: Pregnant employees get paid time off.
- Death Benefits: If an employee passes away, their family receives 90% of their salary each month.
- Disability Benefits: If an employee becomes disabled, their family also receives 90% of their salary.
- Funeral Expenses: The company pays for funeral costs.
- Old Age Care: Medical costs for older employees are covered too.
ESI Registration – A Detailed registration process
To register for Employee State Insurance (ESI), you need the following documents:
1. A registration certificate from the Factories Act or the Shops and Establishment Act.
2. A registration certificate for your company or a Partnership Deed if it’s a partnership.
3. Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association if you have a company.
4. A list of all employees.
5. PAN Card for the business and all employees.
6. Details of employee compensation.
7. A cancelled cheque from the company’s bank account.
8. A list of Directors and Shareholders of the company.
9. An employee attendance register.
Once you have all these documents, do the following:
1. Download and complete Form No. 1 (Employer Registration Form).
2. Submit the completed form along with the documents on the ESI website.
